As viewed from the deck of a felucca as we sailed along the River Nile near the city of Aswan. Built as a tourist hotel in 1899 by the travel entrepreneur Thomas Cook, it has hosted many famous people including US Presidents, European politicians and heads of state and perhaps most notably the writer Agatha Christie. It’s said that Christie wrote “Death on the Nile” whilst staying there and a film based on the novel was shot there in the 1970s.
