Using Silver Efex Pro to get the most out of a wildlife image.
During my visit several years ago to Tanzania, I managed to get numerous photos of lions in both the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park. During daylight hours they were generally fairly inactive as they tend to do the bulk of their hunting at night when they have a greater chance of moving closer to prey species undetected.
Whilst at the time I processed numerous lion shots as colour images and others as toned monochromes using Lightroom and Photoshop, recently I’ve become enamoured with Google’s (formerly Nik Software’s) Silver Efex Pro plugin. In this instance and light sepia tone was employed and the “structure” controls were used to make the most of those details in the lion’s mane and face. ~KD.
