Laysan Albatross landing approach, Midway Atoll.
Midway Atoll and a Laysan albatross has the “landing gear” down, preparing to land near the beach. I quite liked the colour version of this image but then thought, “let’s just see what it looks like in monochrome”.

Into Lightroom’s black and white conversion and then the split toning module. I’ve experimented with a number of different toning effects over the last 12 months or so but have found a couple of looks that have become favourites. Given that I’ve used those effects frequently, it made sense to save them as presets for easy recall. This particular preset has both the highlights and shadows toned at a “Hue” value of 40 points and a “Saturation” of 10 points.
Canon 5D Mark 2 with 70-300mm zoom at 230mm and F8.0. Shutter speed 1/1250 second at ISO 400.
