Following on from the Snow monkeys, Japan post, another image from the same location. I had intended to include this in the previous post but…. due to computer issues couldn’t do it.
This monkey had just emerged from an onsen, or hot springs, where they bathe to get some respite from the winter chill. One thing which was apparent was the speed with which the monkeys could shed water from their fur and soon be dry again. When I watched them climb out of the onsen soaking wet, I almost expected them to shake themselves like a dog to dry off but, no, not necessary. I haven’t to this point researched the explanation for this but assume their fur is quite oily. ~KD
